The Museum of Cambridge is a unique cultural institution dedicated to safeguarding the extraordinary stories of everyday people from Cambridge and Cambridgeshire. Set in the Grade II-listed 17th century White Horse Inn, on the important Roman street from castle to river to university, the Museum has been telling these stories since 1936.

Through our collection, exhibitions, talks, and events we celebrate the history of the communities around us. Our work with families and schools helps young people discover and enjoy their local history. We share the stories of an ever-changing region through our social history website, capturingcambridge.org, documenting more than 12,000 records of local history.

As an independent charity, we receive no regular public funding and are not part of the University of Cambridge. Running the Museum costs around £250,000 per year, and we rely on income from entry fees, venue hire, donations, and the incredible generosity of volunteers and supporters like you.

Every donation helps us:

  • Care for and conserve our 40,000 objects
  • Keep our doors open and welcome visitors from Cambridge and beyond
  • Share remarkable stories of the local area
  • Deliver inspiring exhibitions, talks, events and workshops
  • Inspire more young people through our school and community programme

We can only do this with your help.

Regular donations – whether monthly, quarterly or yearly – are particularly welcome as they allow the Museum to plan ahead with confidence.

Legacy gifts, no matter the size, can have a lasting impact. If you are considering remembering the Museum in your will, then please read our Gift in will Leaflet for more information on how to do this most effectively.

Every contribution helps protect the past, enrich the present, and inspire the future.

However you choose to give, and at whatever amount, please consider making a donation to the Museum of Cambridge today.

With your help, we can continue bringing Cambridge’s story to life.
