Preserving Windrush Heritage in Cambridgeshire

The Museum of Cambridge and Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi are thrilled to announce the next steps in the Legacies of Windrush in Cambridgeshire project, a powerful project aimed at preserving and celebrating the stories of the Windrush Generation. Funded by Arts Council England, this project will collect the rich histories of Windrush Elders and connect them with young people in the community to shine a light on their legacies through an exhibition.

Beginning in 2025, we will host a series of talks, workshops, and programmes to bring these intergenerational stories to life. The exhibition, opening in the early spring, will bring Windrush Elders and young people together to share their stories of the legacies of the Windrush Generation, offering a unique opportunity to learn new skills in storytelling, oral histories, and exhibition design.

We will begin recruiting participants in October, welcoming all to an afternoon of celebration and learning at the Museum of Cambridge Saturday the 19th of October from 2pm- 5pm, to learn more about the project, and about the important Windrush history in Cambridge. Hear from Dr Carol Brown-Leonardi, local historian and the Museum of Cambridge about the project and the importance of preserving stories of Cambridgeshire’s past.

Join us for music and delicious food, to launch the next phase of this fantastic project.
