The Museum of Cambridge is thrilled to announce the return of ‘Little Feet, Big Impressions,’ an exciting and thoughtfully redesigned programme for families with children aged 1-5. This engaging series of storytelling and sensory activities takes place every two weeks and is free to book and attend.

The 90-minute session is divided into two parts. Attendees are warmly welcomed into the Enid Porter Room, the Museum’s purpose-built event space, where adults can enjoy a complimentary tea or coffee while their little ones get comfortable. The session begins with an engaging story told by our enthusiastic staff that features a historical object. Through storytelling, the past comes to life in entertaining and educational ways, creating an informative and magical experience.

Storytelling is just the beginning, however. Families will return to the Enid Porter Room for a sensory activity designed to complement the story they’ve just heard. These activities provide a hands-on way for young children to connect with history, fostering their creativity and curiosity in an inclusive environment. Whether through sound, touch or sight, each experience is curated to ensure that every child can engage in a way that resonates with them.

“I’m so pleased that the Museum is able to launch this new and redesigned programme for ‘Little Feet, Big Impressions,” said Alex Horn, Engagement Officer at the Museum of Cambridge. “It’s so important that young children can access inclusive and friendly introductions to history, as it really fosters a love for learning in later years. We hope that these sessions will encourage the next generation of curious minds to think creatively and engage with local history, especially children from families who are often underrepresented in the heritage sector. We all deserve the chance to learn about our past, and ‘Little Feet, Big Impressions’ offers us an important step towards that. We all deserve the chance to learn about our past, and ‘Little Feet, Big Impressions’ is an important step to allowing everyone the chance to do just that.”

‘Little Feet, Big Impressions’ is a fantastic opportunity for families to bond over shared experiences and to introduce young children to the wonders of history in a way that is accessible and enjoyable. These sessions have been made possible with grant funding from Cambridge City Council’s Community Grant, to whom the Museum is extremely grateful. Starting on September 18th, the programme runs every other Wednesday from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM, ensuring that families can make it a regular part of their routine. While the sessions are free, spaces are limited and booking in advance is essential. To secure your spot, visit https://LFBI.eventbrite.co.uk.
