Retail Refresh-Completed!

The Museum of Cambridge is thrilled to announce the successful completion of its ‘Retail Refresh’ shop refurbishment project, marking a significant milestone in the Museum’s commitment to enhancing visitor experiences and supporting local artisans.

Made possible by the generous support of the Steps to Sustainability project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and delivered by the Social Enterprise Academy, the Museum shop has now undergone a remarkable makeover.

The Steps to Sustainability initiative aimed to empower heritage organisations like the Museum of Cambridge to broaden its horizons, foster valuable partnerships, and embrace the commercial aspects of managing a heritage organisation. With their support, the Museum shop was able to undergo incredible change.

Thanks to the support of various volunteers from the Museum of Cambridge, friends from the Cambridge Museum of Technology, and lovely volunteers from Xylem, we gave the Museum shop a fresh coat of paint in February to a lovely ‘Museum of Cambridge blue’, revitalizing the space and creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors.

The Museum also continues its commitment in supporting ‘Made in Cambridge’ products and fostering partnerships with local small business owners, artists, and authors. From candles to jewellery, books to cards, the shop now features a diverse selection of locally sourced goods. Among the new additions are works by local talents such as Mystical Sky Studio, Emily’s Corner, and Cambridge Imprint. The shop also offers a collection of Cambridge-based books, with recent additions including titles such as ‘The Great Plague’ by Evelyn Lord, ‘The Spinning House’ by Caroline Biggs, and ‘Cambridge: Town and Gown’ by Martin Bond.

In addition to showcasing the work of local artisans, the Museum shop now features an enticing selection of second-hand books, providing visitors with the opportunity to discover literary gems while supporting sustainable consumption practices.

We remain committed to promoting the rich heritage of Cambridge while fostering a vibrant and sustainable local economy. Come visit our newly refurbished Museum shop for your perfect ‘Made in Cambridge’ gift while supporting local artisans!

Its like you read my mind! You seem to know so much about this, like you wrote the book in it or something. I think that you could do with some pics to drive the message home a little bit, but instead of that, this is excellent blog. A fantastic read. I will definitely be back.
