As the Museum wishes our Director, Annie, well on her maternity leave, Alex Smaridge steps into the role of Engagement and Collections Manager with Directorial Responsibilities. Alex, who has been part of the Museum of Cambridge team since May 2021, brings a wealth of experience that will see the Museum thrive with new activities and events in 2024.
With a qualification in Museums as an Associate of the Museum’s Association, Alex is no stranger to the ins and outs of exhibitions and events. Having started with the Museum as a Community Engagement Officer, Alex’s journey within the Museum has been marked by a strong passion for the history of Cambridge and a dedication to growing the Museum’s offer sustainably.
The new role comes with a unique blend of challenges and opportunities, as Alex not only oversees the Museum’s collections, programming and commercial activities but also assumes some directorial responsibilities in Annie’s absence.
This will be an exciting year for the Museum of Cambridge, with new programmes and activities planned throughout the year. We’ve been focusing on looking after our collections and sharing our stories, sharing the work we do to care for our collections with Conservation in Action and our new Castle Quarter Museum Tour.
“We’re really excited to bring new family activities to the Museum this year, as well as some fantastic exhibits about important local topics! There are some exciting projects in the works that we cannot wait to get started on. I’m looking forward to delivering on new parts of our strategic plan this year and sharing the history of Cambridge and the surroundings with as many people as possible.” – Alex Smaridge, Engagement and Collections Manager with Directorial Responsibilities
Good luck Alex on what looks like an exciting year ahead!
