Weaving Our Stories

‘Weaving Our Stories’ is a one day live art event at which artists Cathy Dunbar, Jill Eastland and Jane Hellings will be making a 3-dimensional weaving telling the stories of Cambridge women before and during the pandemic. It takes place at the Museum of Cambridge, Sunday 18th October, 10am to 6pm. Due to social distancing, there can only be a maximum of three visitors at any time, places can be booked with the Museum – 01223 355159, enquiries@museumofcambridge.org.uk. Visitors are invited to bring a small object or words reflecting their own story, to add to the weaving.

The event is the culmination of the art exhibition ‘Women, Unity and Strength’. For this exhibition, over 60 pieces were made by different women and placed in situ in the Museum. The women were mainly from Cambridge Women’s Aid, Cambridge Women’s Resources Centre and Corona House. The pieces of artwork made, resonated with items in the Museum’s collection and told moving stories about the makers and other women’s lives. The exhibition was cut short by the Covid-19 lock down, so the event ‘Weaving Our Stories’ is designed as a fitting closing of the exhibition, celebrating the variety of stories told by the women. This is a women only event.
